Born in Aberdare, Glamorganshire in 1889, son of Thomas/James Jackson, engine driver with the Great Western Railway, and Alice nee Jackson. They lived in Fulham, London in 1901. Llewellyn attended the Night School in Wheatley from 1911 - in the Census of that same year, he was enumerated at Station Road: he was a signalman with the GWR.
